Hey Guys,

Since the LT1_Edit program has been a topic lately, I just thought I'd throw out my experiences with this...

My buddy John bought a fairly highly modded 96SS with worked LT4 heads, CC306 cam, long tubes, and a bunch more but you get the idea. When he got the car we scanned it and realized one of the O2 sensors was not reading and stuck at ~450mv. We also realized that his front and rear O2 sensors were swapped on one side??? He has a custom OBDI PCM which only looks at the front O2 sensors. This was a few weeks ago. Well, being the nut that my buddy is, he immediately put his car in the shop and had it tubbed so we didn't get a chance to dig deeper into the problems with his car. He got the car back recently (which is WILD!) and we started looking at the problems again with the O2 sensors. After digging a little deeper found out that the PCM was shot for the right O2 sensor and no matter what always gave a 450mv reading. This was in the middle of last week. Now, I had been telling by bud about this LT1_Edit program and he was going to end up getting it someday because he wants to custom tune his car. Because of this new found problem with his PCM and him wanting to get his car running right he needed something NOW. I already had the cable from Andrew M so my buddy bought a PCM out of a 94Z at the local salvage yard and emailed Ken about the LT1_Edit program (Ken can also get the OBDI PCMs by the way). My buddy overnighted the money to Ken and he immediately setup a program for my buddy and emailed it to him.

Well, last night we gave it a shot. All I can say is that I'm amazed. I'm amazed at the concept of being able to custom tune a car in my damn driveway. My buddy has been around cars his entire life and knows a lot about this stuff and even he was impressed.

Just to give you an idea of what we did... We took his bad OBDI PCM which was custom tuned by a professional tuner and downloaded that to a file. We swapped PCMs and put his new unprogrammed 94 PCM in. The car barely ran with this PCM We then took the file which contained the custom programming and modified it for his 31" tall tires and 4.33 gears. We then uploaded this program to the stock 94 PCM. He took it out for a test run and WOW! The car ran very good and he even had a working speedometer now! Probably not too many tubbed pro street cars out there that have a working factory speedo, eh? He came back and he knew the speedo was off by a few mph and also noticed the car loading up in certain RPM bands. So, we just went back in and changed the tire height a little to account for the difference. He also went here and there in the program and modified his timing curve. It was also idling a bit low for his liking and mods so he upped the idle to 1200. We uploaded this new file and wala, the car ran even better! He can even drive through town in a gear higher because the car runs that much better at low RPM.

The above is just an small example of what can be done with this stuff. I even let my buddy take my laptop and cable and next week he is going to further tweek the fuel, timing, etc. until he gets it setup exactly how he wants it. I'm just amazed at how this can all be done by the average "Joe" like me. All this thanks to people like Ken and Andrew who take their knowledge and make excellent products for the little guys like us.

I don't personally know Ken and Andrew and have only dealt with them via email. But I can tell you that both these guys are unbelievable and their support is incredible. Sorry to hype this up so much but I'm very excited because I can see this really taking off! And, as more people get this the more knowledge everyone will be able to share and it will be a snowballing effect I know there are a few people already on this board who use the LT1_Edit program and Andrew's cables and have spoke highly about them. I'm just another extremely pleased customer.

For those of you who do not know at all what I'm talking about. Check it out:

And the place to read about the LT1_Edit program... http://www.carputing.com/

This level of technical involvement with your LT1 by average people like me and you probably wouldn't even have been dreamed about a couple years ago. Once again, a big thanks to Ken and Andrew!

I must agree they are all about custumer service wich is a WELLCOME change to the others out there! I spent a weekend in Jan e-mailing Ken back and forth and wound up testing an serise of small upgrades. He would e-mail it to me we would test it and send him the results. he would send another fix. This on a WEEKEND!! and at time past mid night MY time! I Had a A fire in my car and burned my cables to a "Crippy Critter" as Andrew put it. He Cut off what little he could save and built me a news set with my left overs for a VERY fair price. I am tottaly with you here Brent these guys have a great product a GREAT service. Heck there is one guy they have been working with for months that At time did not have very positive things to say and said them here on CZ...I see they have tracked it down to a Laptop problem on HIS end And you know what? they are just happy to have helped him

Hey Brent!,
Danny in MEXICO here,
If its not to much to ask for can you explain to me with crayons, like I was a 5 year-old, how and what is this LT1_Edit prog.
from what I understand, you hook up a PC/LT via serial port and converter(,for $90) what is a serial port?(where do I get it?,how much?,yes Im somewhat of a donkey with computers!),after you have these items then you follow proceedures and run the program?(where do I get this program?),I tried to look through all the pages but some sort of Java something, and Netscape error something came up and I had to reboot, damn,I feel like Im in a bad episode of the twilight zone!Anyways,do I go with this LT1_Edit program,or the Hypertech Power Programmer?(Im somewhat in the dark, but from what I gather, this LT1_Edit is more open to expansion over the other, or amI wrong, and one has nothing to do with the other??).
H E L P !
Thanx
Danny in Mexico 94 LT/6 (still stock)

Hello fellow Editors
I have to agree whole heart'd lee with you, these gentlman have provided a great service and product for the LT1 gearmongers. I've been waiting for the last 3years since the over priced but very nice TTS E software hit the hands of those that could live with the $3600 price tag. If TTS would have done what Dave and Ken did with theirs packaging the software to a specific vin # at a realsistic price,LT1 development could have been much futher along in the backyard crowd.
Thank you Andrew, dave, and ken for all your hard work and efforts in stepping up and advancing the growth of the LT1 movement, its efforts like this that got that blueponey where its at today and its time is up as long as we have the support............THANK YOU
Jeff Taylor

Are there any plans in the works to do OBDII LT1 Edit? Would it just be better to go to OBDI?

How tough is it to switch to OBDI? You probably have to change the plug in the car also, dont you? I know the OBDI and OBDII plugs are different so the computer probably hook up differently to them.

I totally agree Brent. I've only dealt with Andrew a little when I was trying to get my cable working, and he was very helpful, he is really a great guy. And I can't wait to get my copy of LT1_Edit, that is going to be great! We need to get more disussions going on here about results from this software.

MW93Z28,
No, it won't work on 93's. The 93 uses a chip. Our specialty is in the flash units that started in 94. Right now, We only support the 94 and 95 LT1's. We can work on B, F, & Y bodies. We have started development on the 96 F-body, but it will be a few month's before we start Beta trials.

i do a lot of programing and there are

somethings to tell those who program,

you only need 486 computer whith DOS

NO WIN95, it will stop during the program

it happened to me and i don't want it to

happen to any of you (might work for you

but why risk it).

try read first if it is OK go ahead and

program, but if it stops during reading

nothing is going to happen to your PCM,

disconnect PCM fues or battery and

RS connector and and try again.

disconnect fans during read or program

they stay on (over 3 minutes) and DO NOT

FORGET TO RECONNECT THEM.

any feedback from KENK is welcome

aboadnan - Is there a specific reason why you wrote you reply cryptically like that?

What was your point? If you run this software without win95 you will run into problems?

My understanding is that you have to have win95+ to use this software.

I have win95 on my OLD 486 laptop and the programmer/editor software works just fine.

Your point about reading first is a good one. If it reads without a problem you should be able to write without errors.

I don't know guys, I had a tuff time deciding between Hypertech and LT1_Edit. Pretty soon we'll need our own LT1 Programming section here. I also highly recommend these guys's products. This was part of the reason I bought a '95... back to tuning, later!

The Hypertech Power Programmer is an absoulute JOKE!

bone stock the HPP is fine and helps a little, but once the word stock goes away it's worthless. I have a $300 Thermostat trigger now!!!! With headers and stuff the HPP programming HURTS you!

for the money the lt1 edit is 10,000% what the hypertech is. The hypertech forces you to use it's "one size fits all" program, whereas LT1 edit allows you to custom prgram your car your way, and for your mods, no matter howstock or radical yours might be.

not even fair comparing the two.

I have got to admit this software and support is the best I've ever seen. Ken and Dave make an awesome program, Andrew Mattei does a great job on the cables.

I'm using LT1_editor to custom program my 95 supercharged Z28. I am making a "how to" power-tune webpage if anyone is interested. you can see it at:

feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions.

First off, looks like I left somebody in my "Thanks!" I didn't have any interface with Dave, but it looks like he has a part in this as well. Thanks, Dave!

Pugs,
You don't have to change the plug in the car.

aboadnan,
Won't work. These are Windows programs.

Buttercup,
A tough time!?!? The LT1_Edit program is cheaper and does a gazillion things more than the HPP+

CSJTA,
I'll get some pics together!

Christian,
Excellent!
